I am a qualified Art Therapist with a background as a qualified Social Care Worker. I am fully accredited with The Irish Association of Creative Arts Therapists (IACAT) and I am Garda vetted through Create.
I work specifically with Children and Young People. I work with a range of needs including; anxiety, worries, anger/frustration, intellectual or learning disabilities, illness, mental health issues, parental separation/ divorce, loss or bereavement, self-harm, bullying, gender/ sexual orientation, all forms of abuse and more.
Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy/counselling that uses art materials as an outlet to help a child express, process, understand and cope with their emotions in a safe space. Art therapy works with the mind, body and soul to support children/ young people to heal both consciously and unconsciously through the use of play, metaphors, art, expression and story telling. In my practice I work with a process based approach using a combination of theories such as; Therapeutic story telling, Mindfulness, Psycho-somatic work, Gestalt techniques, Humanistic approach, Object relations theory, Attachment theory and Jungian Psychotherapy.
I work in a non-judgmental, person centered way to support children and young people. Art Therapy can help children and young people to…
- Develop self awareness and sense of self
- Encourage self expression and emotional regulation
- Resolve inner conflicts
- Improve coping mechanisms and resiliency
- Build Self esteem and self worth
